Kingston Area Birds 26 October 2024 – 1 November 2024

Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly
to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require
review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type
require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or
directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (
http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type
may be replaced by asterisks.

*Overview*: This was a great week for waterfowl, with great numbers
throughout the Kingston Circle this week. Friday, November 1 was the first
day of the Fall Roundup, so hopefully we will have lots of great sightings
this weekend.

Not in the Kingston Circle, but just outside of it on County Road 24 in
Prince Edward County, Paul Jones found a Western Cattle Egret on November
1. The bird was then seen by multiple observers after Paul’s initial
report. Might be worth a trip to the county to get a look at this rare
bird. Great find Paul!

*Parish Notes: Please be aware that the Amherstview Sewage Lagoons will
have a temporary suspension of access due to construction. This will begin
on Oct. 15 and will likely last until mid-November. Loyalist Township will
let us know when the site access is reinstated.*

* Please be advised that the Owl Woods on Amherst Island will be closed
to visitors during the deer hunting season, which runs from Monday 18
November to Sunday 8 December. *

*Please respect these requests, both for personal safety reasons, but for
continued access to these sites.*

*Please note the new email address at the bottom of the report that can be
used to submit observations if you are not using eBird.*
