Kingston Area Birds 19 October 2024 to 25 October 2024 Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead ( http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type may be replaced by asterisks.
*Overview*: It was a great week for bird sightings this week, with the Yellow-throated Warbler highlighting the week. There was also an increase in the winter finches and other winter birds being reported from the Kingston Area this week. The upcoming week ends with the KFN Fall Roundup, so hopefully we will have some great new sightings coming in by the end of the week. *Parish Notes: Please be aware that the Amherstview Sewage Lagoons will have a temporary suspension of access due to construction. This will begin on Oct. 15 and will likely last until mid-November. Loyalist Township will let us know when the site access is reinstated.* * Please be advised that the Owl Woods on Amherst Island will be closed to visitors during the deer hunting season, which runs from Monday 18 November to Sunday 8 December. * *Please respect these requests, both for personal safety reasons, but for continued access to these sites.* *Please note the new email address at the bottom of the report that can be used to submit observations if you are not using eBird.* *Kingston List* SNOW GOOSE – 1 bird was seen on Russell Road (L&G) on Oct. 19; 1 was seen on Townline Road (L&A) on Oct. 20; 5 were seen at Cressy-Lake Ontario off Kaiser (PEC) on Oct. 24 BRANT – 60 birds were seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Oct. 23, 30 on Oct. 25 CACKLING GOOSE – 1 bird was seen at The Marshlands on Oct. 20 TRUMPETER SWAN – 8 birds were seen at 104 Hardwood Lane on Oct. 19, 10 on Oct. 24; 4 were seen on Holsgrove Lane on Oct. 19, 10 on Oct. 21; 3 were seen on Canoe Lake Road on Oct. 19; 3 were seen at Belle Park on Oct. 19; 5 were seen at Little Cataraqui Creek CA on Oct. 19; 8 were seen at The Marshlands on Oct. 20; 1 was seen in Cataraqui Bay on Oct. 20; 7 were seen in Elevator Bay on Oct. 21; 35 were seen on the K&P Trail (Bank Street to Hwy. 38) on Oct. 21; 3 were seen on Florida Road on Oct. 21. 19 were seen in Frontenac Park on Oct. 22 TUNDRA SWAN – 22 birds were seen in Cataraqui Bay on Oct. 19, 17 on Oct. 20, 2 on Oct. 21, 6 on Oct. 24; 2 were seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Oct. 19; 6 were seen on Wolfe Island on Oct. 20; 35 were seen at The Marshlands on Oct. 20, 39 on Oct. 22; 12 were seen in Elevator Bay on Oct. 21, 16 on Oct. 24 WOOD DUCK – 2 birds were seen on Holsgrove Lane on Oct. 19, 2 on Ocrt. 21; 3 were seen at Belle Park on Oct. 19, 5 on Oct. 21, 5 on Oct. 23, 3 on Oct. 24; 3 were seen on the Gananoque Waterfront Trail (L&G) on Oct. 20; 2 were seen on Belle Island on Oct. 21; 1 was seen on Marble Rock Road (L&G) on Oct. 21; 3 were seen at Charleston Lake PP (L&G) on Oct. 21; 1 was seen at the Marshlands on Oct. 22; 3 were seen on Florida Road on Oct. 24; 2 were seen on the Great Cataraqui River on Oct. 24; 2 were seen at 125 Nina’s Lane on Oct. 25 NORTHERN SHOVELER – 1 bird was seen at Belle Park on Oct. 19, 5 on Oct. 21, 7 on Oct. 23; 17 were seen at The Marshlands on Oct. 20, 10 on Oct. 22, 5 on Oct. 24; 5 were seen on Belle Island on Oct. 21; 11 were seen in Cataraqui Bay on Oct. 24; 1 was seen at the Montreal Street Apartments on Oct. 24; 5 were seen on the Great Cataraqui River on Oct. 24 GADWALL – Multiple reports from the Kingston Circle this week.
