Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent, Noel Herdman

Observers: Juliette Herdman, Liz Kent, Noel Herdman

Visitors:
Thanks to Noel and Juliette for starting off the count and helping us until
midday. It was good to see Greg and Dennis again. We were glad that Dennis
saw his first Golden Eagle. It was also good to meet Kevin and Melissa who
were very interested in the Hawk watch and the birds on the Marsh, who were
also able to see a Golden Eagle.

Weather:
The wind was generally from the west today, moderate with periods of strong
wind including gusts. The day started overcast but skies began to clear
late morning and the afternoon skies were mostly clear. The temperature
started at about 8c and rose to 13c by late afternoon. Visibility was good.

Raptor Observations:
Nice to see four more Golden Eagles mostly to the north, one closer to the
Tower. Also a light phase Rough-legged Hawk straight over the Tower at
relatively low level. Turkey Vultures (144) are still drifting through in
smaller numbers. Red-tailed Hawks (74) and Red-shouldered Hawks (17) flew
through mostly in singles. Sharp-shinned Hawks (11) are reducing in
numbers. Bald Eagles (12), Cooper's Hawks (6) and Northern Harriers (5)
completed the list. No falcons were seen today.

Non-raptor Observations:
Ducks are again all over the marsh with numbers slightly reduced. Probably
some are sheltering from the wind. Still eleven species were seen. It was
nice to see many Tundra Swan (53) passing high overhead shining in the sun.
Small birds were again quiet today, sheltering from the wind and Blackbird
numbers were significantly reduced. However a good number of Cedar Waxwings
(533) passed by with some resting in the trees near the Tower. The list is
at https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S154095516

Predictions:
Tomorrow is forecast to be partly cloudy with moderate wind from the west,
perhaps gaining a northern aspect mid afternoon. The temperature will be
around 10c all day. So it is likely that the mix will be similar to today,
hoping for more Buteos and Eagles, as always.
