Observation start time: 09:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Ian Woodfield, Karen Padbury, Liz Kent, Peter Veighey

Visitors:
Big thanks to Karen, Peter and Ian for help in observing and recording on
what was a hectic but exciting day.

Weather:
A moderate to strong wind from the West North West under overcast skies
ensured that the temperature remained in the low teens. Visibility was
good.

Raptor Observations:
Another amazing Golden Eagle day - thirteen were seen, some in the north,
some over the marsh and some over the Tower. Biggest number day for Buteos
so far, many kettleing high in the sky. Red-tailed Hawks (347) led the
pack, Red-shouldered Hawks (92) followed and it was great to see light
phase Rough-legged Hawks (3) all coming over the Tower. Turkey Vulture
(224) numbers are slowly reducing, but they are still around. Sharp-shinned
Hawks (56) again came through throughout the day. Bald Eagles (15),
Northern Harriers (17) and Cooper's Hawk (11) all appeared in good numbers.
Two American Goshawks, a Merlin and a Peregrine completed a full day.

Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of birds flying west today in good numbers. Crowds of American Crows
(6440) appeared for most of the day. Eastern Bluebird (41), Purple Finch
(32) and Pine Siskin (108) were all seeing flying by. Ducks are again
filling the marsh in large numbers (over 3000), 13 species were seen. More
Common Grackles (210) passed by than in previous days. The list is at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S153981051

Predictions:
Tomorrow is forecast to be overcast with a moderate wind from the East. The
temperature will be around 8c. Rain is likely to arrive by mid morning, so
we will start the count and see how it goes. Unlikely that we will get
anything like today's numbers.
