Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7.5 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Liz Kent

Visitors:
It was good to meet Janice from BC and Lou and Toni from South Windsor who
were interested in the birds on the marsh and the Hawk Watch.

Weather:
Today was mostly clear, with cloud cover increasing slightly as the day
went on. The wind started light generally from the south with a period of
moderate wind in the early afternoon. It became quite warm on the Tower by
midday with temperatures in the high teens. We were definitely overdressed!
Visibility was good.

Raptor Observations:
The day started with a Golden Eagle flying low along the shore, another one
appeared to the north late morning in a Turkey Vulture stream and the final
one was seen early afternoon first in a tree then on the marsh perched next
to an immature Bald Eagle - they seemed to get on OK. Turkey Vultures
(1257) kettled and streamed to the north during the middle part of the day,
accompanied by Red-tailed Hawks (92) and a few Red-shouldered Hawks (6).
The other species seen were each below ten in number.

Non-raptor Observations:
Duck numbers are definitely increasing with Ring-necked Ducks (2115)
leading the pack. Otherwise it was a quiet day around and over the tower
with lower numbers all round; Red-winged Blackbirds 665, Blue Jays 820 and
American Crows 760. Yellow-rumped Warblers and Sparrows were present but in
lower numbers. The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S153008151

Predictions:
The forecast for tomorrow is overcast with a moderate wind from the south
west, temperatures remain in the middle teens and there are showers
forecast for the afternoon. Not too great a prospect for migration, but I'm
sure a few will fly.
