Weather: Temps ranged from 6C to 17C; winds began modestly from the NE, switching to a weaker N and eventually NW. Cloud cover was extremely variable. Raptor Observations: Simply a GREAT day, with over 3000 tallied, including first-season Red-shouldess and Rough-leg, along with 13 Broad-wings and a few Peregrines. All told, we spotted 13 of 15 of our regularly occurring species. Non-raptor Observations: Non-raptor sightings certainly held our interest when the raptors slowed a bit: Warblers included Blackpoll, Northern Parula, and Cape May. We were stunned to discover after the fact that a mostly concealed, poorly seen bird was a yellow-billed Cuckoo based on Dave B.'s record shot. Finally, we had a pale-throated *Cave Swallow* pass directly over the viewing platform at 113am. Something for everyone! eBird list here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S152051858 Predictions: Winds begin strainer NE than today (good), but are forecast to be straight E by mid-day (not so good). Partly sunny conditions mean that birds will be moving -- the big question mark is how many will move past the Cliff. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Chris Burris ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
