Visitors:
Huge thanks to Peter and Aldo for taking over as the Official Counter(s)
for the last 2 hours. Also big thanks to Dan, Noel and Karen for help in
observing and recording throughout the day. It was good to see David and
Jane, Kate and Kelly and Claire and Brian who also helped observing. Glad
you all got to see a good selection of warblers.
Weather:
The day started with low visibility and drizzle until mid morning, when it
began to clear gradually but remained overcast throughout the day. The wind
was mostly from the north east all day. The temperature remained around 18c
for most of the day.
Raptor Observations:
Sharp-shinned Hawks (143) pipped Turkey Vultures (131) today. Most of the
Turkey Vultures came in the last hour. Broad-winged Hawk (56) stragglers to
the main migration continue to drift through. American Kestrels (49) had an
initial burst of numbers but then came past in dribs and drabs thereafter.
Eleven species were seen today.
Non-raptor Observations:
After the famine in songbirds yesterday it went to a veritable feast today,
with a large mixed flock of Warblers seen around the Tower mid morning. A
total of 15 species were seen in good numbers, with Yellow-rumped Warblers
(27), as might be expected leading the pack. Probably due to conditions,
Blue Jays were virtually absent following yesterdays numbers. Good numbers
of American Goldfinches (507) were again seen 'chipping and dipping' over
the Tower. We again had a nice flyby of two Sandhill Cranes. The list is at

Predictions:
Showers are forecast for the morning, with overcast skies and a moderate
wind from the east. The sun may peek through in the afternoon. Probably not
such a good day for Hawk migration.
