Thanks to everyone who assisted us with getting todays count done. Weather: Winds light to moderate from ENE under clear blue skies to start. Temp 12C to start the day and getting to a high of 21C. A few wispy clouds showed up by the afternoon but soon dissipated. Raptor Observations: Not quite the day we were hoping for on the opening day of the Hawk Cliff open house weekend with a small flight for the day. Total birds today was 141 with mostly Sharpies (83) and Am Kestrels (31). The real highlight today was 9 Bald Eagles of several different ages soaring together right above us and as we watched some of them were locking talons and spinning! Luckily, this occurred right around the time of the first presentation so many of the visitors got to witness it. :) Non-raptor Observations: A few non-raptors around today with Cedar Waxwings, Am Goldfinch, Am Crows, Canada Geese, Herring and Ring-billed Gulls, Downy Woodpecker, multiple N. Flickers, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher (photographed), Philadelphia Vireo (photographed), Red-eyed Vireo, Gray Catbirds, Am. Robin, and what appeared to be several warblers flitting around in the trees that we never got good looks at. Predictions: Sunday looks like a bit better forecast for moderate to strong winds from the NE but with very little chance of cloud so spotting the birds will be challenging! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
