Weather: A nice fall day for hawk watching today with a good mix of sun and cloud. Winds were steady and moderate from the NW for the morning but backed to straight W around 1:00 pm and the flight literally shut down. Temps were comfortable from 8C to a high of 18C. Raptor Observations: A pretty good flight today especially since it shut down just after lunch. Total raptors today was 6,509 with a really big push of Broadwings with 4,665 crossing in the 10:00-11:00 am hour and a total of 6,033 Broadwings for the day. A decent flight for several other species as well especially Northern Harriers (51) and another lone Peregrine. Non-raptor Observations: For non-raptors reported check out the eBird reports for today by choosing "Explore" and then "Hot Spots" and put in "Hawk Cliff". Predictions: The forecast is calling for NE winds to start but unfortunately backing to SE which isn't the best for big flights at the cliff. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
