Visitors numbers were low today. Only to be expected with the start of the school term. Weather: Clear sunny day again, with light wind from the South increasing a little in the afternoon providing welcome relief for those on the Tower. Raptor Observations: A day of American Kestrels (6), nearly all sneaking along the shoreline. Two Northern Harriers were welcome, together with two Cooper's Hawks. Singles of Sharp-shinned Hawk and Merlin completed another relatively quiet day. Non-raptor Observations: More warblers today with 7 species including a Northern Waterthrush and Blackpoll Warbler. New birds for the season included a Philadelphia Vireo and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo (heard only). Woodpeckers are holding their own with 5 species seen today. Cedar Waxwings (272) continue to pass by in good numbers. The list can be seen at https://ebird.org/checklist/S149078838 Predictions: Wind remains from the south tomorrow, but there is an indication that change is on the way - slightly lower temperatures and the chance of storms in the late afternoon. Hopefully change may bring higher numbers. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Hugh Kent ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
