Conditions on the Huntsville count were good for birding (calm, sunny, 
relatively mild, little snow on the ground, water mostly open).

Total species: 41 (average: 39)
Total individuals: 4,256 (average 3,136)

Record high counts: Wild Turkey (218), Pileated Woodpecker (27), Northern 
Shrike (9)

Low numbers: Blue Jay (74; only three previous lower counts. Major movement 
south this fall.)

Unusual species for this count: Red-bellied Woodpecker (1), American Robin (2), 
Bohemian Waxwing (48), House Sparrow (4 at a feeder; the first of this species 
since 2010)

Finches: Pine Grosbeak (126), Red Crossbill (9), Common Redpoll (264), American 
Goldfinch (110), Evening Grosbeak (190; highest count since 1995)
