We had so many amazing observers today including Michael, Peter, Larry,
Bob, and Noel. Thanks for all your help and great company!
Weather:
It was a beautiful day on the tower today. Much better than last week. The
high was almost 10°C and sunny all day. The wind died down too, but was
still from the south west most of the day.
Raptor Observations:
There were more hawks today than the last few days, however, still not
fantastic numbers. The majority were red tailed hawks, followed by a few
red shouldered hawks. We had a couple Cooperâs hawks fly over to with a
harrier in the morning and sharpie later on. A single turkey vulture
migrated as well.
Non-raptor Observations:
Birds were much more active than they have been over the last few days,
likely because the wind died down. Over 4000 mallards were seen tightly
congregated in a group where there was a small patch of water left in ice
on the marsh, with them was a completely white mallard with a bright orange
beak and legs. There were also almost 80 great blue herons on the marsh
today. A few more sparrows poked their heads out such as white throated
sparrow, chipping sparrow and tree sparrow. A large line of ducks swam by
in the lake made up of mostly greater scaup and canvasback. White winged
scoter were also seen flying by over the lake!

Predictions:
The weather tomorrow looks similar to today with clear skies and warm(ish)
temperatures. Winds will be mild and from the southwest.
