Observation start time: 09:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 6 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Kory Renaud, Liz Kent, Mark Nenadov

Visitors:
Thanks to Kory and Mark for their help in observing today. A few hardy
visitors passed by with a couple braving the tower to ask what was being
seen.

Weather:
Very cold day on the tower. Very strong wind from the southwest, backing
towards south and a temperature of -5c rising little throughout the day.
Generally overcast but with short bouts of sunshine. Good visibility.

Raptor Observations:
Small bag today, with Red-tailed Hawks (9) the most numerous (if you can
call it that) followed by Turvey Vultures (5). Only other species were a
single Cooper's Hawk and a very nice male Northern Harrier, stopping by to
hunt on the grassy island to the north.

Non-raptor Observations:
The ducks were again the most numerous with 12 species seen.
They were mostly huddled together on stretches of unfrozen open water.
Counting was made easier by the higher number of Bald Eagles (12) flushing
them as they frequently flew over. Mallard (465) were most numerous
followed by Green-winged Teal (320), Gadwall (26) have almost disappeared.
Horned Lark (8), American Pipit (6), American Goldfinch (41) and American
Robin (14) flew past and there was a small number of Sparrows around the
Tower. The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S122676469

Predictions:
Tomorrow is forecast to be pretty much like today, but with the wind from
the west. Hopefully that may encourage a few more raptors to pass us by.
Judging by today you will need to wrap up well if you are going to visit
the tower.
