Weather: Bright sunshine and light to moderate NE to ENE winds finally getting round to straight E. Temp much cooler this morning starting at 0C and getting to a high of just 10C. Pure blue skies all day made spotting the birds very difficult and finally at 2:00 pm they went up and out of sight completely ending the count. Raptor Observations: Not a bad flight overall with good variety and a good push of Redtails (419) and Red-shoulders (25) along with highlights of Golden Eagles (5), a couple more N. Goshawks, and a lone Rough-legged Hawk (Dark morph). Non-raptor Observations: A very good movement of passerines during the first 2 -3 hours with good sized mixed flocks of blackbirds (including several Rusty Blackbirds) and at least 3 small flocks of Evening Grosbeaks. For the rest of the sightings see the following eBird checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S122098271 Predictions: The rest of the week is forecasting southerly winds each day which will pretty much push the flight line of migrants well inland away from the hawk watch. Looking further ahead the weekend may be better BUT we'll have to wait and see how the storm system from the western US interacts with the potential hurricane / post-tropical storm Nicole that's forecast to come up the eastern seaboard. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
