today. Thank you to observers: Michael, Chuck, Jim, Kit, Larry, Linda,
Andrew and Kara. Thank you to visitors: Kate, Sandy and Monica.

Weather:
What an amazing day on the tower. The day began with northeast winds which
switched to south by the end of the day. The sky was clear and sunny,
keeping us warm!

Raptor Observations:
The morning started off slow, but quickly picked up with large kettles of
turkey vultures over the tower. The clear conditions made it easy to spot
buteos flying with them, of which there were many. It was a great day for
red-tailed hawks (239) and red-shouldered hawks (27). Other species were
slightly lower than we have been seeing, such as harriers, peregrines, and
kestrels. Sharpies (31) and cooper's hawks (17) were also present with the
turkey vultures. We counted 8 bald eagles and one golden eagle!

Non-raptor Observations:
Although we were pre-occupied with the large numbers of raptors, we still
managed to spot 62 species. Waterfowl on the marsh are still increasing
with multiple species seen. A new species today for the season were evening
grosbeaks which flew directly over the tower. More horned grebes were
spotted out on the lake. Many songbirds were around the tower today
including the usual sparrows, yellow-rumped warbler and kinglets. The
American crow stole the show today with almost 50,000 counted. The skies
were covered in crows!

Predictions:
Tomorrow looks slightly cooler and possibly less clear, with southeasterly
winds. There still should be hawks to see, plenty of waterfowl and other
birds around the tower. Hope to see you there!
