Michael, Heather, Peter and Aldo, thanks for all your help! Weather: This morning up until 1pm was drizzly but light winds from the south. In the afternoon, the wind picked up fast changing from west to northwest by the end of the day. Raptor Observations: This morning during the drizzly, rainy conditions, there were minimal raptors. At times the visibility was so low, spotting any raptors to the North was almost impossible. Very few sharpies came over the tower. In the afternoon when the wind picked up and was northwest, there were a few large lots of Turkey vultures to the north. A couple of harriers and peregrines flew over the marsh. Once again there was a large group of bald eagles (8) flying and resting around the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: Luckily there were other birds to count around the tower. There was a ton of activity around the base of the tower, mostly sparrows of multiple species. It was a fun challenge identifying them in winter plumage. We also spotted a cape may warbler and blue headed vireo. There were many ducks on the marsh again today, however the majority were in the west end of the marsh. Unfortunately visibility was too low to pick up more species that may have been present. https://ebird.org/checklist/S121359714 Predictions: The wind tomorrow is strong from the northwest in the morning and northeast in the afternoon. It may be slightly chilly but a nice clear day. Hopefully we see many of the numbers that were missing today. Pretty well all of the raptor groups should be present tomorrow including buteos, accipiters, eagles and falcons. It may be good conditions for a golden eagle! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Nicole Shangi ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2022 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
