These preliminary results of North Bay's 42nd CBC held on December 18 are from Lori Anderson, Compiler. North Bay Christmas Bird Count, December 18, 2021 - Preliminary Results Most Abundant Birds Observed: American Crows, Common Ravens, Blue Jays and Chickadees were abundant; woodpeckers, nuthatches and Brown Creepers were frequent; many Mallards; Common Loons and diving ducks were readily observed in the open waters; grosbeaks were well counted, with 79 Pine and 101 Evening Grosbeaks; and Common Redpolls and American Goldfinch were numerous. First Time on Count Species: 1 Belted Kingfisher Specialty Birds Observed: 1 Rough-Legged Hawk; 2 Ring-billed Gulls lingering at Trout Lake; 2 Wild Turkeys; 1 Barred Owl; 1 Northern Shrike; 4 Robins; 1 Gray Catbird and 1 Northern Cardinal, both wintering comfortably near feeders; 75 Bohemian Waxwings; 1 White-crowned Sparrow and 9 Juncos remaining at feeders; 350 Snow Buntings!; 16 Common Grackles; 5 Red Crossbills; 1 House Sparrow High Count: 2 Wild Turkey ties last year's high count Misses and Poorly Represented: Canada Jay - 0; kinglets - 0; Purple Finch - 0; Pine Siskin - 3.
