Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Today the temperature was mild with a high of 12 C. Day was primarily overcast with reduced visibility due to fog and a consistent southerly wind. Raptor Observations: As a result of these weather conditions, raptor movement was significantly low with the only raptor movement observed being in the morning hours of today. The only raptors seen were 3 Northern Harriers, 2 Cooper's Hawk, 1 Red Tail, and 1 Bald Eagle. Non-raptor Observations: Another moderately diverse day for non-raptors, with marsh birds and waterfowl driving abundance and diversity. Marsh numbers remain the same as yesterday, with a fly over by Tundra Swans making for a nice surprise. Another surprise was a raft of Red-Breasted Mergansers nearby on the lake. Songbird activity was low, with the only notable movement being Cedar Waxwings at 500 observed. https://ebird.org/checklist/S97714393 Predictions: Although colder tomorrow with a high of 6 C, other weather conditions are expected to improve with partly sunny skies throughout the day and a westerly wind. Hopefully this will bring back raptor movement to normal levels. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jacob Stasso ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2021 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
