Flocks have arrived in basically the same time period as usual. The major concentration yesterday was on the sod farm beside the Lafleche Dump east of Casselman. Numbers varied during the day and were several tens of thousands at one point. Earlier I had 9,000 in two distinct flocks. There has recently been a small flock near Lancaster as well.
There are also birds at the Winchester lagoons. Some can be viewed from the road but there is no access to the property. It would be good to check the dairy lagoons in town as well. These can only be seen from a distance. The birds will be in the region into December. Brian Morin Directions: Access to Lafleche Road is off Hwy 138, just south of Hwy 417 about 5 km east of Casselman. The Winchester lagoons are north of town off Ottawa Street (Cty Rd 3) once you round the bend. The dairy lagoons are best viewed from the end of Alexander Street which is north off Main Street. -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
