Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Day started out foggy with low visibility but quickly cleared up to sunny skies. Winds shifted between southerly, soith-westerly, and south-easterly throughout the day, overall not helping raptor movement observation. Temperatures were consistent at low 20's C. Raptor Observations: Slow day for raptors were lower counts of Sharpies (69) and somewhat lower Turkey Vultures (486). Other raptor movement was low, however Red-tailed hawks were up at 8. A single Broad Winged made an appearance. Kestrels are still low but slightly higher today at 17. Non-raptor Observations: In terms of non-raptors, marsh birds and waterfowl have increased in both abundance and diversity, while songbird diversity and abundance was dramatically low. Blue Jay movement continues however, once again lower at around 12,000. Large amounts of Blackbird and Starling movement continues. https://ebird.org/checklist/S95866191 Predictions: Tomorrow it is expected to be rainy in the morning with it clearing up during the afternoon. Strong southerly winds are expected throughout the day, with both of these factors in combination possibly hampering any potential raptor movement. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jacob Stasso ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2021 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
