Visitors:
We thank all today's observers for their efforts and those interested in
the ongoing Hawk Count. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top
level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers
only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19
safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and
involvement.
Weather:
Day started with extremely low visibility due to heavy fog cover. No raptor
movements were recorded during this time even with a north-easterly wind,
however as mid-morning came fog cleared and raptor movement started. Day
concluded with resuming overcast cover and some rain as winds moved to
easterly.
Raptor Observations:
During heavy fog cover no raptors were seen, however as it cleared up,
raptor movement was present with primarily Turkey Vulture (approx. 450) and
Sharpie (approx. 120) movement being present. Northern Harriers were also
in good numbers (9). Poor day for falcons and buteos with only a few
Kestrels, 2 peregrines, and 3 Red-tails.
Non-raptor Observations:
Low marsh numbers were reported with a somewhat lower waterfowl diversity.
Blue Jay movements rebounded today at 22,000, especially after fog cover.
Warbler numbers continue to decrease, however a yellow warbler was a
surprise sighting today. Blackbird movements also continue. Swallow numbers
were extremely low at 5. Monarch numbers were also low at 5.

Predictions:
Tomorrow it is expected to rain in the morning and thunderstorm in the
afternoon with winds being souther-easterly throughout the day. This will
likely yield poor conditions for raptor migration, especially for buteos.
