Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Very overcast, misty and humid start to the day. The cloud cover dissipated in the afternoon. Wind remained light to moderate from the south throughout the day. there was a short spell of drizzle mid morning. Temperature rose to 25c in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: Very low numbers of raptors. Sharp-shinned Hawks reached 69 and Turkey Vultures 35. Only one falcon today - a Merlin mid afternoon. Non-raptor Observations: Large Blue Jay migration again today (23,380). Numbers on the marsh remain stable. Many (200) Tree Swallow continue to hawk at various heights above the Marsh. Good to see American Golden Plover flying past. Late warblers continue to be present around the tower, with another Orange-crowned seen today. However the wind is forecast to be from the north east, so hopefully this will bring greater numbers of raptors, with a smattering of Buteos.
