Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Today was sunny with no cloud cover and temperatures rising from 10 degrees Celsius inn the morning to mid-20's in the afternoon. Winds started as northerly early in the morning but quickly shifted to southerly/south-easterly, potentially pushing migrating raptors outside of optimal viewing range. Visibility was good. Raptor Observations: Today was another good day for Turkey Vulture (1025), Northern Harrier (31), and Sharpie (219) movements. Broad winged hawk movement was also present but at lower numbers then yesterday (130). Falcon movements were present but low except for Peregrines which saw 6 observations. Red-tailed movement and Cooper's hawk movement was also presennt. Non-raptor Observations: Non-raptor count was diverse with diverse warbler species and some diversity in ducks although waterfowl numbers were lower then usual. Blue Jay migration continues with approx. 27700 observed, with blackbird movements also being present. First Yellow-bellied Sapsucker reported. Monarch numbers are consistent at 42 for today. Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S95404244 Predictions: Sun and temperature conditions are expected to be the same tomorrow, with southerly/souther-westerly winds present throughout the day. Hopefully buteo movements will continue despite this wind and falcons reappear. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jacob Stasso ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2021 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
