Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Liz Kent, Olga Klekner

Visitors:
We thank today's observers for their help and those interested in the
ongoing Hawk Count. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level
of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The
2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe
precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and
involvement.

Weather:
It was overcast with rain mid morning. The wind remained from the south
east all day and the temperature rose to a muggy 27c at midday

Raptor Observations:
Mostly all Sharp-shinned Hawks today (267) with very small numbers of
American Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine, Northern Harrier and Red-tailed Hawk.
Majority of Sharp-shins passed relatively close to the tower, others
further to the north. Falcons generally followed the shoreline.

Non-raptor Observations:
Good numbers of Tree Swallows (192) were hawking over the marsh, Blue Jay
numbers (3280) increased again. Warbler and vireo numbers continue to
diminish. More varieties of duck are being seen on the marsh but are hard
to spot amongst the large patches of marsh plants still present. A good
number of Northern Flickers (16) were seen today heading west. The list is
at https://ebird.org/checklist/S94955261

Predictions:
With moderate wind from the south and periods of rain possible, tomorrow at
best may produce a few more Sharp-shinned Hawks. Doesn't look good for
buteos though.
