Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Weather was cool compared to prior days, staying in the low 20s. Sky was entirely cloudy with a low ceiling, potentially allowing raptors to fly overhead. Light level was also lower. Winds shifted from Easterly, to South-easterly and then North-Easterly making raptor migration more favourable by the day's end. Raptor Observations: Day started off slow but then picked up with falcons towards mid day. Relatively high number of reported Merlins (7) as compared to prior days. American Kestrels also had good numbers going through from noon until mid day (23). Buteos and accipiters remained low but present. Resident Baldies and Osprey were present on marsh. Non-raptor Observations: Very large number of Tree Swallows were reported as they moved inn migratory flocks. Additionally, there was also a significant movement of warblers, with 18 species of Warblers being observed. No other major movements except for resident marsh birds. https://ebird.org/checklist/S94623648 Predictions: Tomorrow it is expected to be warmer and clearer.
