Thanks to Chris B for hanging in for the day to complete the count. Weather: Temps ranged from 13C to 21C. The wind was generally a moderate NW, about 10 to 15 km/h with occasional gusts. The sky began as absolutely clear and progressed to 80% coverage by the end of the count period. Raptor Observations: Small numbers but decent variety: American Kestrels and Broad-winged Hawks led the charge. A single Peregrine Falcon was the next-to-last raptor recorded. (Local Red-tailed Hawks and Turkey Vultures were not included in the count.) Non-raptor Observations: Note that it was a 7 woodpecker day, with over 50 total non-raptor species recorded! Non-raptors included: Canada Goose, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, American Crow, Blue Jay, American Goldfinch, European Starling, Cedar Waxwing, Mourning Dove, Song Sparrow, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Indigo Bunting, Rock Pigeon, Barn Swallow, Chimney Swift, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, House Wren, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Cardinal, Cliff Swallow, Green Heron, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Blackpoll Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Warbling Vireo, Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Least Flycatcher, White-breasted Nuthatch, Red-eyed Vireo, Red-winged Blackbird, Double-crested Cormorant, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Cliff Swallow, Black-capped Chickadee, Common Nighthawk, Green Heron, and Red-headed Woodpecker (x2).
