Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: The day started cool at 18c, with wind light from the north-west and clear skies. It gradually heated up to a high of 26c with the wind moving to the south after midday. Cloud cover gradually increased throughout the day. Clear with good visibility all day. Raptor Observations: The majority of the sightings were in the middle two hours of the day. Again very low numbers (18) but a good variety - all three falcons, Red-tails, a sharp-shinned and a Broad-winged Hawk. One adult Bald Eagle flew west at a significant height. American Kestrels were again the most numerous (7). Non-raptor Observations: During the first two hours of the day the vegetation around the tower was alive with Warblers, with an eventual total of 15 species at the end of the day. Most numerous were Yellow-rumped warblers and there was a significant fly over of warbler species. Cedar waxwing numbers remained good but fewer hirundines and Goldfinches were recorded. Waterbird numbers in the marsh remain stable.
