Highlights: There were further signs of warbler migration this week but shorebird habitat remains in short supply this year with correspondingly poor numbers. Banding (and birding) picked up a little earlier in the week at Prince Edward Point with good numbers of BAY-BREASTED and BLACKPOLL WARBLERS moving through. Here are the highlights of the last week: BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO - a late bird was seen at Lemoine Point CA, Kingston, on 24th. AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER - 5 birds were seen at Martin Edwards Reserve, Amherst Island, on 27th. SOLITARY SANDPIPER - a lone bird was still present at a location near Verona on 27th. NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL - the first bird of the season was banded at Prince Edward Point on 26th. Check their website for details of public banding sessions during October. PEREGRINE FALCON - birds were noted at Prince Edward Point on 25th and near Verona on 27th. GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER - a late bird was seen just north of Kingston on 27th. YELLOW-THROATED VIREO - the last bird of the season (so far) was an individual seen near Verona on 24th. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW - the first of the season was photographed at Lemoine Point CA, Kingston, on 22nd. NELSON'S SPAROW - a single bird was seen outside the area at the traditional location of HR Frink CA (north of Belleville) on 27th. NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH - a very late record was received from Prince Edward Point on 27th.
