Subject: [Ontbirds] Presqu'ile Gull Is access update - some shorebirds

Hi All

The high winds on the weekend removed a large section of the gravel bar
stretching east from Gull Is. This results now in a rather intimidating 400
metre stretch of open water to cross to get to Gull Is. The water remains
about the same depth though. Today was one of the calmest days I have every
seen here and the water was about 3 feet deep for about 50 metres and closer to
a foot for most of the rest of the trip. As usual be cautious if you go over
as conditions can change rapidly.

Shorebirds seen were:

20 Sanderling
25 Semipalmated Plovers
15 Semipalmated Sandpipers
6 Least Sandpipers
1 Black-bellied Plover
1 Spotted Sandpiper

So not much in the way of unusual shorebirds and no passerines on the island.
Despite a seemingly inviting interior pond and mudflats all shorebirds were
along the shore.
