Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email or post records
directly to me - contact details below. Please note that some sightings may
require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise.

A REMINDER RE OWL WOODS: A condition of being allowed continued access to
the Owl Woods is that observations of owls seen there are not posted to the
Internet (in any form) during the current season. Notices explaining the
reasons for this are posted at several locations in the woods. Currently the
landowners allow access but this may change if the rules are broken. I am
happy to answer questions on their behalf privately.

Highlights:

It was a very quiet week in the Kingston area. Here are the highlights of
the last week:

TRUMPETER SWAN - the remarkable number of birds at Lower Brewers Lock
continued for a 3rd week with 83 seen there on 10th. At the nearby Upper
Brewers Lock, 100 were seen on 11th. Birds are also being seen at Chaffey's
Locks with a maximum of 34 seen there on 10th.

NORTHERN PINTAIL - a single male was seen at the Wolfe Island ferry dock on
10th.

BLACK SCOTER - a single bird was seen at Prince Edward Point on 10th.

KILLDEER - visiting birders photographed an obviously confused bird on Wolfe
Island on 9th.

SNOWY OWL - it remained a very quiet week for this species on Wolfe Island
with a 'high' of just 2 birds seen on 10th. A high of 17 was noted on
Amherst Island on 9th. Please keep your distance to reduce negative impacts
and always respect private property.

GYRFALCON - there was another inland sighting this week in the vicinity of
Loughborough Lake on 11th.

EVENING GROSBEAK - up to 22 birds have been regular at a private feeder near
Brewers Mills for the majority of the week.

PINE GROSBEAK - birds were seen at just a single location near Gananoque
this week, where a high of 5 were present today (15th).

COMMON REDPOLL - there were continued widespread sightings across the region
this week, with birds being consistently seen at a feeder near Verona where
300 were present on 13th and 15th.

HOARY REDPOLL - a single bird was seen on Amherst Island on 10th.

LAPLAND LONGSPUR - there was just 1 bird seen this week, on Wolfe Island, on
10th.

SNOW BUNTING - most records this week came from islands, with 100 birds seen
on Wolfe on 10th and just 10 on Amherst, also on 10th. 75 birds were seen on
the mainland, north of Kingston on Ida Hill Road, on 12th.

COMMON GRACKLE - marginally outside the area, 10 birds were seen at South
Bay, Prince Edward, on 10th.

In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording
area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings
Policy
<http://kingstonfieldnaturalists.org/birding/KFN_sensitive_sightings_policy.
pdf> . Please note that you must be a card-carrying member of Kingston Field
Naturalists (KFN), or be accompanied by a member, to access both the Martin
Edwards Reserve and Amherstview Sewage Lagoons.

As always, a big thank you goes to all those who have submitted sightings
directly or via eBird.

Mark.
