Weather: Today had overcast skies and gusty winds from the west similar to yesterday. The sun never did make an appearance. Temperatures were around -2 C but felt much more comfortable in the afternoon, compared with the previous day and a half as the winds diminished. Raptor Observations: A Coopers Hawk and a Merlin were observed flying past the tower today. These individuals were also caught, banded and released by one of our licensed banders. [5] Red-tailed Hawks were also observed and again, they seemed to struggle with the west winds. Bald Eagles were seen throughout the day. Non-raptor Observations: Several large flocks of Canvasback were flying over the lake, even extending over the tower and were estimated at approximately 8000 individuals. What a sight! Many gulls were flying over today including a large number of Herring Gulls. https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S50283149 Predictions: Light to moderate winds from the south and snow flurries are expected for much of the day. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 0 C. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Craig Evans (c...@hotmail.com) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
