Hello,

I'm pleased to announce that OFO and the Peninsula Field Naturalists have
organized a field trip the morning of the Gull Workshop at a local Niagara
Falls hot spot so we call all have a whole weekend of fabulous birding!

Here are the details:


*Explore the Port Weller East Pier with Peninsula Field Naturalists *



*Meeting Time:* 9:30 AM

*Meeting Place:* Port Weller East Pier, Port Weller St. Catharines We will
meet at the yellow gate at the end of Seaway Haulage Rd.

*Leaders:* Jean Hampson, Bob Highcock, Carol Horvat and Doug Gillard

The Port Weller East Pier is a Niagara Hot Spot that involves an easy walk
along a gravel path with trees on both sides bordered by the Welland Canal
and Lake Ontario. The walk will be distance of 2.5 km to the beacon and a
2.5 km return. Dress warmly.



Possible birds include waterfowl including scaups, scoters, Long-tailed
Ducks and mergansers. On a recent PFN outing Red-throated Loons and a
Harlequin Duck were observed. Snow Buntings, gulls and Peregrine Falcon are
often seen at the end of the spit. A Snowy Owl was a regular visitor last
winter. Finches, woodpeckers and nuthatches can be found while walking
along the road. There is always a chance for rare ducks and geese.
