Thanks for the company! Weather: It was a much more pleasant day to be on the tower compared to yesterday. Light winds were from the south and there was a mix of sun and cloud throughout the day. The temperature began at 0.4 C and reached a high of 3.9 C. Raptor Observations: The south winds were not ideal for raptor migration again. (4) Northern Harriers, an adult male, 2 adult females, and an immature bird were observed. (9) Red-tailed Hawks and (5) Sharp-shinned Hawks were also seen today. A Peregrine Falcon flew directly in front of the tower at high speed. 3 immature Bald Eagles were observed perched on a downed tree in the marsh until they were chased away by 2 adults. The Osprey is still being observed. Non-raptor Observations: A good variety of duck species were observed in the marsh today. A large flock of Rusty Blackbirds landed in nearby trees for a few minutes before continuing on. Several huge waves of European Starlings flew past today and also landed in trees completely inundating the area. A good number of Eastern Bluebirds continue to be observed.
