Dave, Linda and Pat Schiller were at the tower in the afternoon. Weather: Today was overcast with light winds from the northwest for much of the day. The temperature was around 5 C and humidity was relatively low at around 50%. Raptor Observations: A SWAINSON'S HAWK was observed flying over today!! An adult Golden Eagle was observed. Many (172) Red-tailed Hawks and (41) Red-shouldered Hawks were flying over throughout the day. (14) Sharp-shinned Hawks, (10) Cooper's Hawks, (8) Northern Harriers, and (7) Bald Eagles were observed today. An American Kestrel and a Merlin were also observed migrating. The Osprey is still being seen perched in nearby trees and flying around the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: Two groups of Eastern Bluebirds for a total of 33 birds flew over the tower today and many landed in nearby trees. It was quite the sight to see the male bluebirds next to the adult male Northern Cardinals. Red-winged Blackbirds were seen in their highest numbers in over a week. Only a single Great Egret was observed today.
