Weather: It was overcast all day with winds from the northwest and some light drizzle at times. The temperature hovered around 6-7 C and humidity was about 85%. Raptor Observations: The morning began slowly but picked up around mid-day, then significantly slowed again in the late afternoon. An immature Golden Eagle flew in low, directly over the tower. A light morph Rough-legged Hawk, the second of the season was observed. (21) Red-tailed Hawks and (5) Red-shouldered Hawks were seen today. (15) Northern Harriers were counted. (2) Cooper's Hawks and (62) Sharp-shinned Hawks, as well as (4) American Kestrel and a Merlin were observed. An Osprey and an adult Bald Eagle were not counted as migratory species today. Non-raptor Observations: A Common Yellowthroat was hanging around the base of the tower. The first American Tree Sparrow of the fall was observed today. 2 Northern Rough-winged Swallows and a Tree Swallow flew past the tower in close proximity to each other. Red-winged Blackbirds, as well as Common Grackles and Ceder Waxwings were noted in good numbers today.
