Hello Roxane Filion and I spent some time looking for the Harris’ Sparrow that was reported in Smooth Rock Falls earlier this week. We checked several feeders along Ross Rd in the early afternoon and again a few hours later. There were many White Crowned Sparrows, a few Fox Sparrows and White-throated, but we did not find the Harris’s. According to the original reporters, the bird has not been seen since Wednesday, even though the wet & snowy weather this week makes it unlikely that the bird would have moved on (we’ve had rain or light snow most nights and at least 1cm of snow fell last night). Of interest, though, there were still some American Pipits in town and a large number of Lapland Longspurs and Snow Buntings. Thanks Ken & Angie Williams for being so accommodating.
Directions from previous post: From North Bay, drive 4 hours north to Cochrane on Highway 11; follow hwy 11 north west at Cochrane (well signed); in Smooth Rock Falls, turn right just after the Moose Motel onto Dupont, left onto Main St., then right on Ross Road.
