A big thank you to Ed and Carol who enjoyed their last full day at the tower! Weather: It was a cool morning with some sun and clouds, a temperature of 8.1 C and light winds from the northeast. Cloud cover soon increased to 100% and humidity levels rose. There was light rain for a few hours in the late morning until early afternoon. Raptor Observations: Not nearly as many raptors were observed today as compared to yesterday, notably Sharp-shinned Hawks and American Kestrels. Around 12:00 pm EST and lasting about 45 min, a large number of Turkey Vultures were observed with a few Broad-winged Hawks mixed in. Northern Harriers were the next most frequent species observed today. Non-raptor Observations: There was a very nice mix of summer and winter species around the tower today. 10 different species of warblers were seen including a male Yellow Warbler. There were many Golden and Ruby-crowned Kinglets and also some Dark-eyed Junco and an Eastern Towhee. Canada Goose are beginning to be seen in greater numbers in the sky. Zero Monarchs were observed today.
