The total species reported for the three-day OFO Convention at Point Pelee and nearby areas (September 28 to 30) currently stands at 192. This total is the highest ever recorded at an OFO convention. The previous highest was 188 species observed at Long Point in 2017.
The 285 registered Convention participants enjoyed three days of beautiful, cool weather for birding. The many field trips led by experienced, enthusiastic birders produced a tremendous variety of species. Noteworthy birds observed during the Convention included: Ross’s Goose, American White Pelican, Purple Gallinule, Upland Sandpiper, Hudsonian Godwit, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, White-eyed Vireo, Connecticut Warbler, Clay-colored Sparrow and Nelson’s Sparrow. Total species reported for the following groups are shown in parentheses: ducks (19), shorebirds (20), gulls (5), warblers (24) and sparrows (12). The complete species list will be posted on the OFO website (www.ofo.ca). Thanks again to all the organizers, speakers, The Friends of Point Pelee National Park, trip leaders and participants for a very successful convention. Hope to see you at the next OFO Convention at Hamilton on 27-29 September 2019. Good birding.
