Weather: The day began warm at 20 C and hardly any winds coming from the south. Cloud cover was 100% and visibility was relatively low. Winds soon increased and switched to the southwest. Cloud cover remained at 100% throughout most of the day with some light drizzle. Temperatures stayed consistent for the day but the humidity levels rose. Began to clear a little in the afternoon with more dark clouds right behind. Raptor Observations: Very slow day for raptors and it did not pick up throughout the day either. It was the least amount of raptors I have seen in a day here yet. Sharp-shinned Hawks were very slow coming over. An adult Peregrine Falcon was seen, an immature female Coopers Hawk, two Osprey, and two Turkey vultures and an American Kestrel were also seen today. Two adult Bald Eagles were seen but one was going in the wrong direction. A Red-tailed Hawk was also seen going the wrong direction. Non-raptor Observations: Many flocks of European Starlings were seen flying. There were not as many warblers around as the past few days. Chimney Swift and Tree Swallows continue to be seen in good numbers. Blue Jay numbers increased from yesterday. Only 2 Monarchs were seen today. Predictions: Winds are expected from the north this evening and overnight and will switch to the east sometime in the early morning. The winds are expected to switch to the south around 9-10 am tomorrow morning and temperatures should reach a high of 24 C with a mix of sun and cloud. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Craig Evans ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
