Visitors:
The OFO fieldtrip lead by Craig Evans included a trip to the Tower. Much
thanks for pointing out birds.
Dr. Dan Mennills ornithology class of 40 first-time birding students
joined members of HBMO on a tour of the hawk banding area, songbird banding
area, the hawk tower, and a bird walk within the conservation area. We
enjoyed their visit and questions while on the tower. Please come back any
time.
Weather:
With the wind shifting throughout the count period the temperature changed.
With southerly flow the temperature rose. In all it ranged 12.1 C to 18.0
C.
Also as the wind shifted the bird species and numbers also changed.
The sky remained clear all day and the barometric pressure remained
constant at 30.13 in of mercury.
Raptor Observations:
There were eight (8) species of raptor and Turkey Vultures sighted today.
Four species were multi-digited. TV=496, SS=107, BW=11, AK=16. The Turkey
Vulture number is highest this season and almost 500. A few late
Broad-wings reminded us of thermal usage as did the Turkey Vultures.
A good day to see a few raptors and be generally warm and with friends.
Non-raptor Observations:
The Ontario Federation of Ornithologists, OFO, are meeting in the area and
had a field trip to Holiday Beach. They were helpful in spotting all kinds
of birds.
Monarch Butterflies tallied at 17.
Blue Jays streamed all day. 40,131.
Some other birds of note; both Kinglets, Common Nighthawk, White-throated
Sparrow, N. Pintail, C. Swift.
To see the entire non-raptors go to:

Predictions:
Sunday showers in the morning 10 C; a mix of sun and clouds in the
afternoon with 20 C. Winds SE and E (15 km) in the AM with N and NE (20 km)
winds in the afternoon.
