Weather: The day began cool at 12.5 C with mostly sunny skies and winds from the NNW. Cloud cover increased rather quickly to 95% by 8:00 am EST then 100% by 9:00 am EST and remained so for the rest of the day. The winds shifted all the way from NNW to SSE by 10:00 am EST. and remained southerly for the rest of the day. Temperatures reached a high of 19.9 C at 12:00 pm EST. Raptor Observations: The day began a little slow but began to pick up by 10:00 am EST. 6 Northern Harriers were seen (mostly in the morning) and so was a Peregrine Falcon. Turkey Vultures were not seen in as great of numbers as yesterday but still some coming through. 14 Broad-winged Hawks were also seen today, 13 of those in the same hour. No Bald Eagles were seen at all today. Non-raptor Observations: An American White Pelican was seen in flight at close range off the east side of the tower at 1:52 EST. The first two Golden-crowned Kinglets I have seen this fall at the tower were seen today. Good mix of warblers in the morning including a good number of Black-throated Green Warblers. Blue Jays were coming through in good numbers today compared to yesterday and Monarch activity increased greatly after the winds switched to the south. Blue Jays - 27 355 Monarchs - 151 https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S48782981 Predictions: Tomorrow morning should be mainly sunny with winds from the southwest with a high of 21 C. Around noon the winds are expected to shift to the west and remain mostly sunny. Unfortunately with the south winds it may be another slow day for raptor migration tomorrow, but hopefully we should get a few nice falcons with the west winds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
