Hi everyone,
The Townsend's Solitaire continues in Dufferin near Shelburne (not that we expected it to go anywhere soon!) It took about an hour for the group to get a visual on it, however members of the group heard it calling off and on long before it was seen. I actually missed it the first time because Owen Ridgen and I were busy looking at Pine Siskins (which were numerous), however thankfully it showed up again and we saw it sitting on the fence behind one of the houses. So, I suppose if you aren't having any luck peering into the bushes, take a look, and you might see it on a fence post! The bird is located in 4th Line near Shelburne. It has been observed around the bushes (and fences) around the two houses, so if you stand there long enough, you should be able to see it. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S42129197 Good birding, Quinten Wiegersma London, Ont https://birdsbugsbotany.blogspot.ca/ https://naturalistsoftomorrow.blogspot.ca/ [email protected] ________________________________ From: ONTBIRDS <[email protected]> on behalf of Ethan Gosnell via ONTBIRDS <[email protected]> Sent: January 20, 2018 6:22 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Ontbirds] Townsend's Solitaire - Yes For all of those who want it for the year, or missed it last (me), the Townsend's Solitaire that MacNeal found last November still continues today. I haven't seen any updates on this listserv since Dan refound it on the 16th, but I thought I'd let people know. It seems to be most reliable in a small period shirtly after 9, then it dissapears for most of the day, then reapears closer to 2. Also of note in the area was a Shrike and Goldfinch involved in a high speed chase, as well as some Ring-necked Pheasant around. There was another noteworthy sighting (also by Dan) of an adult Northern Goshawk on 15 side road. Hope this helps others decide whether or not to make the trip. Good birding! _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
