Hi all, My son and I were surprised to hear a single BOHEMIAN WAXWING while walking around the Long Point Bird Observatory banding station grounds at Old Cut Blvd, Long Point today. Although we heard it call twice, and it sounded relatively close, we were never able to actually see the bird. I suspect we may have flushed it (?) and it took off before we were able to register and start looking for it.
Other birds of note observed during our wanderings in and around the area were: - Tufted Titmouse, White-throated Sparrows, Cooper’s Hawk, Common Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds and Brown-headed Cowbirds - Feeders at LPBO, Old Cut banding station - Carolina Wren - Lighthouse Crescent, Long Point - Bald Eagle - flying over Old Cut Blvd. - Rough-legged Hawk - Hastings Dr. and Erie Blvd, Long Point - Song Sparrow - 614 Front Road (valley crossing west of Maple-Oak Kennels) - Fox Sparrow and Pileated Woodpecker - Along Front Road near Ryerson Summer Camp, Normandale - Northern Flicker - Concession Road 2, approx. 200 m west of Hwy 59. - Snow Buntings - Concession Road 1, exactly 5.00 km west of Hwy 59. (likely coming to spilled grain by silos) - lots of Dark-eyed Juncos and American Tree Sparrows (all over the place) Good birding, Karl and William Konze Guelph, Ontario _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
