Yesterday David Beadle viewed and photographed the Goldeneye that I reported as a Barrow's on Sunday and, after circulating the photos to some people much more knowledgable about goldeneyes than I, it has been determined that it is in fact an orange-billed female Common. Still an interesting bird and a good learning experience!
Apologies for any confusion, but at least this saves anyone from the temptation of the 8 km round trip walk to go see it!
