Highlights: The week has been pretty quiet on the whole but as winter approaches I just wanted to remind folks that the Owl Woods (Amherst Island) will be closed for hunting over the next 3 weeks (20th Nov - 10th Dec). Here are the highlights of the last week: BRANT - still a few birds coming through with 2 in Kingston on 11th and 1 on Wolfe Island on 17th. GOLDEN EAGLE - an immature bird was seen on Amherst Island being harassed by 3 Northern Harriers on 11th. NORTHERN GOSHAWK - an immature bird was seen near Millhaven on 15th. ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK - it appears to be building up towards a good year with numerous birds being seen regularly on the islands. SNOWY OWL - the first bird of the season was seen on Wolfe Island on 16th. NORTHERN SHRIKE - 4 records from across the area were received this week. NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - a single bird was seen on Amherst Island on 12th. LAPLAND LONGSPUR - birds were seen on Amherst Island on 11th and Wolfe Island on 17th. YELLOW WARBLER - a late bird was seen on Amherst Island on 16th. INDIGO BUNTING - a late bird was seen at Seeley's Bay on 13th. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy <http://kingstonfieldnaturalists.org/birding/KFN_sensitive_sightings_policy. pdf> . Please note that you must be a member of Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) or be accompanied by a member to access the Martin Edwards Reserve. As always, a big thank you goes to all those who have submitted sightings directly or via eBird. Mark. Mark D.
