Weather: Today was MUCH nicer temperature-wise than the last few days. A nice west and northwest breeze greeted us throughout the day, and kept many raptors closer to the tower than they have been recently. Many clouds in the sky helped out for picking up the high-flying birds as well. Raptor Observations: We had our first real push of Turkey Vultures today, with 172 being counted. In addition, decent flights of Osprey (6), Sharpies (203), and definitely our best Am. Kestrel flight so far this season with 165. Majority of the birds counted today migrated past between 11am and 2pm local time. With the low numbers of Broad-wings today in the north wind, it is suspected that we missed the big push for this species again this year. Non-raptor Observations: There were 2110 Blue Jays counted migrating today. In addition, 121 Cedar Waxwings, and a fair number of unidentified fly-over warblers. Link to the full eBird checklist here: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39431330 A total of 69 Monarchs were counted as well. Predictions: Moderate north and northwest winds predicted all day tomorrow, with mostly sunny skies. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
