Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Jennifer Lyon

Observers: Bob Johnstone, Cary Graham, Dave Brown, Dave Verkley,
                  Derek Lyon, Tom Bolohan

Visitors:
A ton of visitors today for the 1st of our open house weekends. Thanks to
all those who volunteer their time to put these weekend events together.
And a big thanks to today's counters... Jen and Derek Lyon, Keith S., Tom
B, Bob J., Bernie V. Cary G. and Dave V.

Weather:
Almost an instant repeat weather wise to yesterday with VERY warm temp to a
high of 27C but feeling like 32C with the humidex. Not a cloud in the sky
for most of the day though some clouds built up far to the north by
mid-afternoon though they weren't any help down at the hawkwatch. Winds
were non-existent to start and slowly increased from the SE which is the
worst wind for migrants at Hawk Cliff.

Raptor Observations:
Despite the poor migration conditions, we had a better than expected flight
with 174 birds tallied. Most of today's flight was made up of Sharpies
(113) and Am. Kestrels (51)... along with Osprey (4), N. Harriers (4) and
Merlins (2).

A few Bald Eagles were spotted traversing the hawkwatch area but all
appeared to be either local youngsters and adults so none were tallied
today.

The only buteo noted today was a local Redtail that appeared hunting to our
east.

Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of Woodpecker species today with... Downy, Hairy, N. Flicker, Pileated
and YB Sapsucker. An Olive-sided Flycatcher sat at the very tip of tree
right across from the observation knoll for viewing through the scope. Also
heard Great Crested Flycatcher and WB Nuthatch, saw several Cedar Waxwings
and RT Hummingbirds and a single Caspian Tern.

Good Monarch numbers today: 68
Also...Painted Lady.

Predictions:
Unfortunately, tomorrow (Sunday) looks like an instant replay of today's
weather with SE and SSE winds and EVEN WARMER if that's possible at this
time of the year. Hard to believe we're almost officially into Fall.
