Today I checked out Rondeau, Hillman Marsh and the Tilbury Sewage Lagoons.
>From 5:45 until 12:10, I spent the day at Rondeau. Despite the wind, we >managed to find a few decent birds including a Yellow-breasted Chat on South >Point Trail, which was seen from the main trail just past the lighthouse "side >trail". Also at Rondeau was a Blue-winged Warbler in the same area as the >chat, and a singing White-eyed Vireo. Common Loons seemed to be on the move >today. I could not find the White-winged Dove, but it was seen today. This >bird is still missing from my life list! Around 1:30, we arrived at Hillman to a group of 50+ Willet, which were very cooperative and fairly close to the viewing stand. A single Stilt Sandpiper, a bird which is an uncommon spring migrant, was also seen with the yellowlegs. There was also a pair of Trumpeter Swans at the back of the shorebird cell. Finally, on our way home, we checked Tilbury Sewage Lagoons. Here, with the help of another birder, I was able to locate the Black-necked Stilt on the right side of the road leading from the entrance. It was at the back of the pond to the left of an isolated bunch of phragmites. It was with a Lesser Yellowlegs. Rondeau: can be accessed off Kent Bridge road or Rose Beach line (Chatham-Kent) $17 admission Hillman Marsh: can be accessed off Mersea Rd 2 between Mersea Rd 19 and 21 (Essex) Tilbury Sewage Lagoons: from Tilbury, head north on Queen street, then turn onto Lakeshore 303/Cloutheir street, turn into the wastewater management plant driveway and drive all the way back. There should be a pond on both sides of the road, the stilt was in the right one (Essex) Good birding, Quinten Wiegersma http://birdsbugsbotany.blogspot.ca/ [email protected] London, Ont _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
