Highlights: A gradual warming over the week and a southerly wind at today will hopefully bring in some goodies for the weekend. Things during the rest of the week have, however, been rather slow. Here are the highlights of the past week: CACKLING GOOSE - Birds were seen on Wolfe Island on 18th (2) and 20th (1). SNOW GOOSE - singles were seen on Wolfe Island on 19th and 23rd, with 400 near Theresa, NY on 23rd. NORTHERN SHOVELER - two males were seen at Amherstview sewage lagoons on 21st. KING EIDER - a female was seen, close to shore, on 20th but unfortunately not seen since. TURKEY VULTURE - not many around yet so the single at Elgin on 23rd was of note. GOLDEN EAGLE - a single bird was seen twice, by independent observers, near Horne's Ferry, Wolfe Island on 19th. SANDHILL CRANE - two birds were heard near Murvale on 21st. CAROLINA WREN - scarce this year, a single was heard just east of Kingston, at Ravensview, on 23rd. NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - the long-staying Kingston bird continued throughout the week. EASTERN TOWHEE - an early (?) bird was seen at Point Peninsula, NY on 19th. EASTERN MEADOWLARK - slow to arrive, a single was seen at Lemoine Point on 23rd. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy <http://kingstonfieldnaturalists.org/birding/KFN_sensitive_sightings_policy. pdf> . Also note that, as requested by the landowners, sightings of owls at the privately-owned Owl Woods must not be shared on the Internet (this includes posting as 'Amherst Island' on eBird) by KFN or anyone who visits. To ensure continued access to this location, please respect their wishes and follow the guidelines posted on-site. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings from that location are welcomed through all the traditional channels. As always, a big thank you goes to all who have submitted sightings over the last week. Mark. Mark D.
