Hi Everyone, At 11:25 this morning, I was exiting the Erieau Rail Trail and found a Nelson's sparrow in the sumac beside the marsh near the entrance. Before I could get a photo, it flew further towards the parking area into another sumac where I was able to study it a bit more. It was VERY orange, had a white belly and a gray median crown stripe. It then flew to the parking area and landed on the handlebar of the rustic bicycle there. Again, before I could photograph it, it dropped down into the weeds right beside the garbage pail. I walked closer and could see it walking in the weeds but it was into thick grass and cover. I eventually could not see it, so I walked around to the road side and never saw it again. I alerted others who were nearby and 5 of us searched the area until 1:00 with no further sightings. Chances are good that it has gone into the adjacent marsh.
The black-throated gray warbler in Erie Beach has not been seen at all since 1:00 yesterday afternoon, despite many people looking yesterday and this morning. Steve Charbonneau Direction: The Erieau rail trail is on the outskirts of Erieau, in Chatham-Kent on the north side of the road. There is a parking area with a sign. Take County Rd 12 south from Talbot Trail, west of Blenheim. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
